The courses will be offered in three week block, which means that the students are able to design their own summer school program. They may choose to complete one three week course or two different courses over the six week holiday period.

The IAT is particularly excited to be able to offer two very special personal development programs. The Health and Wellness course is designed to develop awareness of, and a positive attitude to, health and fitness and covers topics in diet, nutrition exercise and sport. A special program for senior girls in Life Skills and Career Education is aimed at developing self-esteem and confidence and will provide sessions on interpersonal communication and social skills, health awareness and career development.

In the vocational area boys will be able to chose from courses in car mechanics and maintenance, welding and carpentry while for girls, special courses have been designed in jewelry making, fashion design and beauty therapy.

Students who would like to improve their academic performance may chose either the Academic Preparation course, designed for those preparing to advance to tertiary studies, or the Toolkit for Academic Success which is designed to develop a range of study and computer skills that will help students develop study and independent learning skill.

For those interested in developing their computer skills, the Introduction to IC3 course will give the students the opportunity to complete one or more of the modules which will count toward certification in this internationally recognized program.

A unique feature of the summer school program will be the integrated approach to English language studies. English language teachers, with experience delivering learning-to-learn program, will support students throughout the summer school visiting vocational classes with learning materials designed to develop English language comprehension and vocabulary based on the specific area of study.

The inclusion of the personal development, academic courses and the integrated approach to learning addresses ADEC’s broader aims of the summer school program which is to help students develop attitudes to life long learning and on-going improvement in their knowledge, skills and abilities.

While the summer school program will offer students the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge, the emphasis will be to make learning a fun and rewarding experience. Fields trips and guest speakers from relevant community and industry groups will be a feature in each of the courses offered. Parents, friends and members of the community will be welcome to volunteer to assist in activities and invited to view student presentations and exhibitions and attend end of course award ceremonies.

The IAT is looking forwarding to a cooperative working relationship with ADEC and the Al Ain Education Zone with the aim of providing local national youth in Al Ain an educationally rewarding and creative summer school experience.
